TRAUMA RECOVERY CENTER/CONSULTANTS has over 15 years experience in the planning, organization, and management of professional development seminars/conferences. Ranging from consultation to partial/complete responsibility, Trauma Recovery Center/ Consultants has provided services to organizations throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
The SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY INSTITUTE (SPI) is an educational organization dedicated to the study and teaching of a somatic approach to clinical psychotherapy practice. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-oriented talking therapy that integrates verbal techniques with body-centered interventions in the treatment of trauma, attachment, and developmental issues.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In recent years, psychotherapy has begun to shift its emphasis from models of cognitive development to the significance of “affect communicating cure” rather than the “talking cure” (Schore, 2005).
This seminar will explore the nature of procedural learning, trauma, and attachment-related issues, and the interface between affect regulation, emotions, and the body. It will introduce and clarify non-verbal interventions that promote adaptive intimacy and affect regulation. It will highlight the use of directed mindfulness to enhance affect regulation and allow traumatized patients to address past events without becoming dysregulated.
Dr. Ogden will explore theory and technique for working at the regulatory boundaries of the window of tolerance as the patient’s arousal begins to challenge his or her integrative capacity. Interventions and concepts will be discussed and illustrated through lecture, video excerpts or sessions with patients, brief experiential exercises, and handouts.

NOTICE: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Trauma Recovery Center Present in Royal Oak, Michigan: Training for the Treatment of Trauma with Anne Westcott, LICSW and Ame Cutler, Ph.D Candidate Traditional psychotherapy addresses the cognitive and emotional elements of trauma but lacks techniques that work directly with the physiological elements, despite the fact that trauma profoundly affects the body and that so many symptoms of traumatized individuals are somatically driven, often inaccessible in a talking therapy context. The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy TM Training for the Treatment of Trauma presents simple body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming, and safely exploring trauma-related physiological arousal and procedural tendencies, creating new competencies and restoring a somatic sense of self. Students will learn effective, accessible interventions for identifying and working with disruptive somatic patterns, disturbed cognitive and emotional processing, and the fragmented sense of self experienced by so many traumatized individuals. Techniques are taught within a phase-oriented treatment approach, focusing first on stabilization and symptom reduction. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can be easily and effectively integrated into many approaches including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, hypnotic and EMDR-focused treatments.
